School – Studio I and Lighting Theory

December 31, 2012. My last post of the year. I was extremely busy with school this semester. I took a Lighting Theory class. Let’s just call it the class from hell. It took up so much time and I have very few images from that class that I like. I am extremely happy that it’s over.

Studio was fun. Probably not my best work, but it was the first time I used a Medium or Large format camera. The first eight shots were done in Studio. A couple were “Recreate The Shot” from images we found on the web. This was really a great way to learn and see if you can recreate the styling, studio lighting, etc. It was definitely harder than it looked.

I tried to use a variety of lighting techniques. The Aveeno shot was the only image shot with a large format camera. My favorite is the Issey Miyake Perfume shot. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to reshoot the onion shot. I wish I did. I wasn’t happy with the onions that were cut up. They are too much out of focus. It’s definitely a learning process.

The last three images were taken for Lighting Theory.

Door County – The Ride Home

Door County – The Ride Home

We had beautiful weather while we were in Door County. I hated to leave. Still I found a few things to photograph on my way home. A great abandoned barn. I wish I would have arrived just a little earlier. I’m sure I would have been able to get the sunrise through the barn. Oh well, next trip.

We stopped at the Algoma and Kewaunee lighthouses for some quick photos. The sun was getting too high, so I stopped photographing. The last of my images were taken in Two Rivers. We went over a small bridge and I noticed these people fishing. I found a place to park, but the only good vantage point to get a shot was from a parking lot with two no trespassing signs. I hope it was ok to stand there. I got a quick shot and we drove back to Chicago.

Door County – Cana Island Lighthouse, Baileys Harbor and Cave Point Park

It has been awhile since I have posted anything. I have been extremely busy with school. Now that classes and the holidays are over, I want to finish up my Door County posts and show you what else I have been up too.

My focus on my October trip to Door County was lighthouse and parks. The Cana Island Lighthouse and Cave Point Park were highlights of my trip. I was lucky enough to hit Cave Point Park at sunrise. Such beautiful scenery, so peaceful and relaxing. I hope to go back in the Spring.
